Devotion to the Infant Jesus

Devotion to the infancy of God incarnate is very popular in the Catholic Church in India. The Carmelites have a special mission to spread this devotion throughout the world, because, they received special favors from the Infant Jesus in Prague. The Princess Polyxena in 1628 presented her beloved statue of the Infant Jesus to the Carmelites in Prague. This statue became a source of blessings to the Carmelite friars in the monastery. Devotion to the Infant Jesus received ecclesiastical approval when the auxiliary bishop of Prague, Joseph De Corti, crowned the Infant Jesus.

The Carmelites of Karnataka Goa Province have taken keen interest in propagating the devotion to the Infant Jesus by dedicating two Shrines; one in Mangalore and another in Mysore. The Shrine in Mysore is popularly known as Pushpashrama. The Carmelites in Pushpashrama have promoted this devotion by building a beautiful Shrine which was blessed on 4th January 2004. This Shrine in the diocese of Mysore has become a source countless blessings to devotees from all faiths.

Miracle

Thank you Infant Jesus for saving my life especially when I met with a major bike accident on the 2 September 2004. I had serious head injuries and I was put on a ventilator and all gave up hope. Special prayers were offered to the Infant Jesus by the community of Pushpashrama along with my family. Miraculously I was saved and now I have recovered fully. I am thankful to the Infant Jesus for this great miracle in my life and I thank my friends, relatives and well- wishers for storming heaven with their unceasing prayers.    -Avinash Francis Furtado

Activities in Pushpashrama

Inter- Religious Dialgoue
In today’s world there is a growing need for inter religious harmony among people of various faiths. Indeed, Pushpashrama has set an example by their tireless efforts to bring about unity among Muslims, Hindus and Christians. Every year the Hindu festival of Deepavali and the Muslim festival Ramadan are jointly celebrated at the Infant Jesus Shrine. On that day, Religious Leaders from all three faiths come together and hold prayer service which is fallowed by a candle light procession. Even during the annual feast of the Infant Jesus an inter-religious prayer meeting is organized. May these Spiritual activities of Pushpashrama enhance peace and unity among all the religions in our society.
